Artist Statement.
Peter Kalas, born in 1985 in Bydgoszcz, Poland, has had a diverse journey from being a political refugee to establishing himself as a seasoned graphic designer. In the late 1980s, Peter and his family sought refuge in Denmark, where he later pursued graphic design at the Graphic Design School in Roskilde, graduating in 2013.
Over the past +10 years, Peter has honed his skills in the graphic industry, working with advertising agencies and serving as an in-house graphic designer. His true passion lies in his identity as a self-taught artist. Inspired by influential figures like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Robert Nava, Peter's artistic style is characterized by boldness, expressiveness, and playfulness. Growing up in a challenging environment, his creations seamlessly blend abstraction and raw emotions, often punctuated with statements. Peter's preferred canvas is the tactile nature of paper, where he employs a mix of acrylic paint, oil pastels, colored pencils, and markers.
Drawing inspiration from personal experiences, immediate surroundings, and present emotions, Peter's artwork serves as a reflection of his inner world. As an artist, he aims to tell a story and establish a connection with the viewer through his creations. By revealing his soul on paper, Peter invites the audience to explore the depths of his emotions and experiences, creating a shared space where the personal becomes universal. Through his distinctive visual language,
Peter Kalas welcomes you to join him on a journey of connection, emotion, and artistic exploration.
